The new Maritme Skills Academy is built alongside Viking Recruitment’s existing offices on a former MOD Warehouse site and was constructed to provide a specialist training pool with associated changing rooms and lecture facilities. The aim is to give training and instruction to cruise liner operatives at all levels in the operation of life boats and rescue.
The new training building was constructed on piled foundations with a combination of contiguous and secant piling systems to form the pool and underground plant room. The main building structure was formed using a structural steel frame with a combination of brick and block infill, cladding to upper levels intergrated with curtain walling, precast concrete floors to lecture rooms and balconies and a lifting gantry for the lifeboat over the training pool.
