BBS is delighted to have been awarded main contractor status on the RBLI Gavin Astor House refurbishment, in Aylesford, Maidstone.
Gavin Astor House is a 50-bed care facility located within the Royal British Legion Industries campus and has provided permanent, holiday and respite care in a supported yet independent way for the elderly since its opening in 1993. The home also provides specialist support including dementia, high dependency and end of life care.
BBS is undertaking the full refurbishment of Gavin Astor House including a complete strip-out and refit of all 50 individual bedrooms and associated facilities such as lounges, bathrooms, communal areas, offices and specialist care rooms, across several phases. The complex refurbishment will modernise Gavin Astor House and reflect the style and feel of the adjacent Appleton Lodge, that completed in 2019 and was opened by Her Majesty The Queen.
Logistically challenging, Gavin Astor House will remain fully operational throughout the refurbishment with residents living in adjacent parts of the building. These works are being undertaken in phases and every element of the project has been carefully planned to accommodate residents and ensure their care is not disrupted in anyway.
Phase 1 includes redevelopment of the reception and café to provide a welcoming and focused entrance to the property.
Refurbished rooms on the lower floor will be design to full dementia capability and décor while the upper floor will cater towards high end nursing and end of life care. All corridors and room entrances on the ground floor will also be upgraded to enable dementia friendly recognition and access.
Upgraded facilities for residents will including a hairdressers, café and refurbishment of a former roof terrace into a wintergarden. Residents will be able to enjoy all of these new facilities fully once the refurbishments complete in Autumn 2021.
